ENThe study is based on the computer corpus of the presentday Lithuanian language at Vytautas Magnus University. It provides a huge amuont of data that allow to consider the origin of neologisms. Those neologisms that come into being because of extralinguistic factors are conspicuous since they are used to nominate new phenomena. The other part of neologisme that originate due to linguistic reasons are not so visible, they do not give the effect of a lexical innovation. Transnomination, semantic differetiation, economy of a language, univerbalisation and analogy are the most productive linguistic reasons that cause the appearance of neologisms. [From the publication]
