ENThe PIE roots *ǩleṷ- ‘hear’ and *pleṷ- ‘float’ had parallel paradigms in Balto-Slavic: (i) primary durative verb pres. *pleṷ-e/o- (: Ved. plávate, Gk. πλέω), *śleṷ-e/o- (: Gk. κλέομαι, probably a displaced subjunctive) : inf.-aor. *pl(e)ṷ-ē ‘swim, flow’, *šl(e)ṷ-ē- ‘be famed’, with a secondary second stem in *-ē-; (ii) inchoative pres. *plu-Hste/o-, *ēlu-Hste/o-, aor. *pluṷ-e/o-, *śluṷ-e/o-, with a (H)sfe/o-present otherwise only continued in the Baltic sfa-presents; (iii) causative, perhaps with archaic Narten ablaut *plöṷ-eịe/o-.
