ENThe article continues the analysis of functional styles of the Lithuanian language as it analyses the essay, the content of which is characteristic of that of philosophy science. The peculiarity of the science of philosophy is considered to be the main non-linguistic factor influencing the essay style. The stylistic analysis of the philosophical essay reveals the importance of the subjective factor of the essay style in both Lithuanian and Czech, which determines the subjectivity and individuality of linguistic expression. The subjective factor has a particularly important effect on microcomposition where it causes strong interaction between formal and informal styles. This interaction is first and foremost revealed through stylistic features such as generalized approach, abstractness, statical character, objectivity and consistency that are characteristic of formal style, and their tangle with a stylistic feature of the informal style, namely subjectivity, which determines the occurrence of other stylistic features, i.e. expressiveness and individuality in the text. Therefore, linguistic expression is usually chosen regardless of the rigid norms of theoretical substyle of scientific style. It is rather realized through abundant indicators of the expression of subjective approach, such as 1st person singular and corresponding personal pronouns as well as actualization, in other words, expression comprising expressive components and situational neologisms performing the function of a term. The subjective indicator’s effect on macrocomposition, however, is minimal, that is the text is composed in accordance with the requirements of theoretical substyle of scientific style with only few features of other styles.
