ENThis article discusses two hypotheses concerning etymology of Lithuanian noun perkūnas meaning thunder, thunderbolt from the perspective of modern knowledge about historic Lithuanian word-formation. According to author it is etymologically right to state that perkūnas is a derivation with possessive suffix -Hon- / -Hn from the name of an oak, which helps to reconstruct the meaning of analyses lexeme as “having an oak, or the one who has an oak”.
