ENNovels play a special role in the works by Grigory Kanovich. However, it can seem problematic to identify the genre of some of his works. First, not always the authorís genre definition coincides with the one defined by the critics and editors. Second, the distinctive feature of Kanovichís works is the use of philological forms: two related books and trilogies. This aspect of Kanovichís works cannot be considered unambiguous either. Novels can be joined into polylogical forms of both open and closed types. Moreover, while the researchers distinguish the so called ëMishkine trilogyí, the author does not agree with this fact. Therefore, the ëMishkine trilogyí has all chances to become a non-author foundation that appeared without the authorís interference. Finally, not only does Kanovich unite his novels into separate cycles, but also, due to the definition of the author himself, his novels, trilogies and related books are considered as an integrated text, their genre being ësagaí, as defined by the author. Depicting the past, Kanovich exceeds the limits of a generic saga. The works of the up-to-date author can be called the saga of nation, as he is concerned about the history of the Lithuanian Jewry, which is introduced through the space of the Jewish family and borough, included in a vast historical aspect.
