ENThe sources of history of philosophical thought in Lithuania are published in connection with extensive research of problems and preparation of an academic publication on the history of philosophy in Lithuania. Three volumes of the "Sources" are to be published; the first volume will cover the epoch of feudalism, the second volume the epoch of capitalism and the third volume the epoch of socialism. In the publication a principle is observed by which as sources of history of philosophical thought are considered works relating to the given field which were written within the borders of ethnic Lithuania or by Lituanians living in other countries but linked with ethnic Lithuania by their activity and creative work. However, in the history of Lithuania, just as in the history of other peoples, works of some of its representatives belong to the culture and science of several peoples. A number of representatives from other nations - Poles, Germans and others - in the earlier and later periods taught philosophy at the educational institutes of Lithuania, first of all, at the Vilnius University. For this reason their philosophical heritage belongs both to the history of those countries and peoples and to that of Lithuania. At the same time Lithuanian professors of philosophy taught at the educational institutes of Poland, Prussia and Byelorussia. However, the sources of the history of philosophical thought in Lithuania do not include persons living beyond the borders of ethnic Lithuania and having no direct links with it, who published their works in Vilnius in Polish and other languages. The "Sources" include not only philosophical works in the literal sense of the word - treatises, monographs, textbooks, articles, hand-written texts of lectures in philosophy - but works from other fields as well, which contain social ideas and opinions of the epoch having philosophical and ideological significance in solving social problems - in state acts, works of law, economy, history. All the three volumes are compiled in alphabetical order of authors of the sources. Works by unknown authors are presented at the end of the volume. Each source is presented as follows: author, his short biography, title of the source, its translation into Lithuanian, place and date of its publication or writing, number of pages or sheets, titles of parts or sections with the number of pages, summary of the source, press-mark (for all manuscripts and sources of the 16th-18th centuries which were preserved in printed form in small numbers). Each source is summarized. If it was published several times, the last edition is summarized. The authentic metrics of the source (title, number and titles of parts, date of writing or publication) is given. The main elements of the metrics - author and titles - are given in capital letters. Specific letters of the Gothic type, the Cyrillic alphabet and of the so-called „grazhdanka" (secular type) are replaced by corresponding letters of Latin and Slavonic alphabets used at present. In the indications relating to parts of the source some abbreviations are expanded, stresses and some diacritic signs are omitted. Apparent misprints are corrected. Non-authentic metrics elements of the source are italicized. Translation of the title into Lithuanian is given in brackets in the original text. [...]. [From the publication]
