LTKnygoje apibendrinti naujausių tyrimų rezultatai apie Vilniaus urbanistinę raidą laikotarpiu nuo miesto užuomazgų iki gynybinės sienos pastatymo 1503-1522 metais. Nagrinėta miesto erdvinė struktūra - materialių objektų visuma (topografija, rajonai, keliai ir gatvės, kultūrinis sluoksnis, statiniai ir kita) bei organizacija (funkciniai, komunikaciniai, erdviniai, socialiniai ryšiai). Analizuoti struktūros pokyčiai ir jiems įtakų darę veiksniai - gamtinis, istorinis-politinis ir sociokultūrinis kontekstas. Tyrimas atliktas taikant tarpdisciplininę prieigų, skaitmeninių technologijų metodus (GIS erdvinę analizę, matematinę statistinę analizę, virtualų imitacinį modeliavimų), kompleksiškai analizuojant didelius informacijos masyvus (Lietuvos istorijos instituto, Kultūros paveldo centro ir Vilniaus apskrities archyvuose saugomus Vilniaus istorinės dalies archeologinius, architektūrinius-stilistinius, istorinius, geologinius tyrimus bei istorinę kartografiją). Knygų sudaro dvi dalys - mokslinio tyrimo publikacija ir tirtų šaltinių katalogas skaitmeninėje laikmenoje. EN[...] This book presents a study of the spatial structure of Vilnius - the entirety and organisation of material objects. These objects are the topography, districts, roads and streets, plots of land, buildings, production zones and burial grounds. By organisation we mean the various links between objects: functional (which determine the complexical operation of objects, taking into account their purpose), communication (these organise movement within the city and the accessibility of objects), spatial (these determine how objects are positioned in terms of one another and how their volume forms the space around them), and ethnic-social (relations between different city communities that operate in the city space). The chronology of this research - the Middle Ages - takes in the period from the city’s very beginning until the construction of the city defensive wall in the first quarter of the 16th century, in 1503-1522. It was at this period that the unique fabric of the medieval city emerged and took shape, reflecting the world view of the Lithuanian grand dukes and their efforts towards creating the city. The first quarter of the 16th century was chosen as the endpoint for this research as this was when the initial structure became outdated and started to be reformed. The aim of this book is to reveal the evolution of the spatial structure in Vilnius during the Middle Ages by taking an interdisciplinary approach and complexically correlating new theoretical insights, technological potential, research methods and information sources. Meeting this aim demands conducting systemic research: to summarise the natural research data relating to Vilnius; to prepare a classification of the spatial structural elements of the medieval city; to assess the spatial and functional links between different elements of this structure; to consider the factors that determined the city’s evolution: the natural, historicpolitical and socio-cultural context; to create a periodisation of the stages in the evolution of Vilnius’ spatial structure, from the city’s beginnings until the construction of the city defensive wall in the first quarter of the 16th century; to assess the condition of the spatial structure at critical points in its evolution; and to determine and explain the evolutionary dynamics of the spatial structure in Vilnius. Sources from various disciplines make up the information base of this research: archaeological, architectural-stylistic, written, cartographic, geological and geophysical. GIS spatial analyses, vector layer connection and overlap, and mathematical statistical analysis methods were used to study these sources, as well as cluster analysis, virtual imitation modelling, and visual and logical methods (deduction, induction and synthesis).
