ENThe usage of pronominal / simple adjectives with the suffix -ьск- is characterised by certain features and is closely related to the lexical meaning of the adjective and the determined noun. Simple forms are used when the adjectives have the possessive meaning. In the constructions with the local meaning, both simple and pronominal forms are used in parallel. Such constructions used to have a lexically defined meaning, thus there was no need to express them grammatically using pronominal forms. The category of definiteness in constructions that were not lexically defined had to be represented by pronominal forms. They were used where the possessive meaning was weakened and substituted with relational or even qualitative meanings. Such dual expression of definiteness and the possessive meaning could not stay in the language for a long time, so, as it can be seen in the Uspensky codex of the 12-13th centuries, simple forms of the analysed adjectives started to be gradually substituted with pronominal ones. In the Lithuanian language, relative adjectives with the suffix -iškas, as well as all others relative adjectives have no pronominal forms. They almost have lost their possessive meaning, although they had this meaning earlier. Now these adjectives are used only in locative and qualitative meanings. [From the publication]
