ENThe object of the research: teachers’ approach to intercultural competence development during the foreign language teaching/learning process. The aim of the research: to reveal how intercultural competence is developed in foreign language teaching/learning classrooms and how it could be improved. The aim of this article: to learn foreign language teachers’ viewpoints on the development of intercultural awareness in the English teaching/learning process. The aim of the study could be specified by the following research tasks: 1. To define intercultural competence. 2. To reveal the respondents’ viewpoints on the development of different dimensions (knowledge, attitudes, skills) of intercultural competence in the English teaching/learning process. 3. To reveal the possibilities and difficulties of intercultural competence development in the foreign language classroom. A hypothesis of the research: teachers of foreign languages provide cultural knowledge rather than develop intercultural skills of intercultural competence in the foreign language teaching/learning process.
