ENDuring the long period of Russian occupation and the Soviet Union, the Lithuanian language was under a strong influence of the Russian language. Since Lithuanian independence in 1991, standards have been set in order to purify the language from the incorrect borrowings. The influence, however, is still obvious, especially in the spoken language. Most obvious calques are found in lexis, but they are also common on the syntactic level. This area has been less researched, so the present work aspires to make an important contribution to the examination of the influence of Russian syntax in Lithuanian. For the purpose of research, comments from two most popular news sites were examined. The reason for choosing comments is their characteristics of the spoken language. The syntactic calques were then classified and the influence of Russian explained. [From the publication]
