ENOn the basis of concepts of idealisation, ideal, model, value and standard, the author discusses the possibilities of occasional literature of the second half of the 16th c. and the first half of the 17th c. to highlight the image of ideal woman in social consciousness, which at the same time is a reflection of collective consciousness of the considered period. This theme so far has not been analysed in the Lithuanian historiography. The article deals with the theoretical aspect of the question. Four main points are emphasized: 1) formulation of the problem; 2) discussion of the concepts of idealisation, value, model and standard; 3) the communicative-normative aspect of occasional literature; 4) presentation of the information blocks of occasional literature which provide knowledge on the model of woman. The investigation region was the territory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The author focusses attention not only on Lithuanian nobility, but also on women of other nationalities that were included into the culture of the GDL through matrimonial links (Lithuanians, Poles, inhabitants of Russian lands of GDL). The occasional literature reveals relations between spouses, their relations with children, neighbours and subjects. It discloses women's religious and caritative activity and attitude towards death. Investigated sources (253 authors speak about 155 women) give opportunity to understand woman's character and models of activity dominating in the collective consciousness rather than to find out the individual patterns of woman's mentality. Occasional literature provides a rather interesting and variable information, which can be widely interpreted. [From the publication]
