ENThe paper focuses on the evolution of Jesuit Personnel in Vilnius since the creation of the Lithuanian Province of the Society of Jesus in 1608 until the suppression of the Jesuit Order in 1773. The research is based on three-years catalogues, preserved in the Roman Archive of the Society of Jesus. On the background of the financial situation of Jesuit houses in Vilnius the author analyses both quantitative and qualitative changes in the structure of Jesuit personnel. The paper deals with the following issues: the amount of Jesuits living in Vilnius, the structure of personnel according to religious vows, geographic origin, language knowledge and high school degrees. Each of these issues is considered not only on the background of the Lithuanian Province, but also within a more general context of changes affecting Jesuit personnel in Western European countries. The author highlights the importance of Vilnius as administrative centre of the Jesuit Order and the significance of its presence for the cultural life of the Great Duchy of Lithuania.
