ENArticle is devoted to Michał Kazimierz Ogiński – a writer, a musician, a politician and a hetman – who did not accomplish success fully in any of his interests. Nevertheless, his achievements in mentioned areas were signifi cant. Despite his patriotic enthusiasm he was perceived negatively due to carrying responsibilities of hetman. Only the construction of canal, named after him, connecting Dnieper and Neman rivers’ drainage basins, was thought to be unambiguously successful, however it was also thought to be nonartistic undertaking. The author of the article presents Ogiński’s biography, analyses his works and historical sources as to debunk inaccurate beliefs about died on 31st January 1800 hetman. [From the publication]
