The Impact of teamwork on student academic achievement in the business English classroom

ENThe article aims at determining a framework in which teamwork facilitates the development of employability skills and Business English (BE) communicative competence by creating a favourable environment in the BE classroom. The results of theoretical research are based on the empirical evidence. The self-adapted questionnaire enables to determine the top employability skills from the employers’ perspective. The problematic areas for the development of such skills are identified and relevant classroom activities are organized, focusing on the advantages of teamwork. Students’ positive feedback on how the active teaching methods based on teamwork activities influence their BE communicative competence and help to develop the necessary employability skills as well as the final assessment of students’ verbal skills prove that embedding BE as an obligatory subject into study programme makes a positive impact on the enhancement of students’ competitive advantage in the global labour market.
