ENThere are not enough local researches оf landowners' activity in Lithuania, so this article attempts to solve this problem partially and to examine one of the aspects of their activity in micro historical level. The goal is to investigate the forms of landowners' public activity in the beginning of the 20th century in Panevėžys county. The main tasks arc to identify the county landowners, to get acquainted with public spaces and to look for landowners’ activity manifestations in these spaces. It was found that in 1897 in Panevėžys county 9214 (4,1%) residents declared belonging to the nobility caste. The county had only 235 medium and large landowners land holdings, which amounted to 100 decimates of land. These families could afford the quality of life corresponding to landlords' status. Some 60 families who had managed the estates with more than 500 decimates of land to be regarded as large landowners.There arc not enough local researches оf landowners' activity in Lithuania, so this article attempts to solve this problem partially and to examine one of the aspects of their activity in micro historical level.
