ENThe article analyses the aspects of social rehabilitation of convicted persons that are among the principal factors determining the absence of high recurrent crime. During social rehabilitation it is aimed to prepare the guilty person for life in the society instead of punishing him. Its successful implementation is not restricted to only detention centres but also seriously affects the general society. In order to improve the resocialization of convicts, new ways are explored. One of them is a Half-way house, opened under the Lithuanian and Norwegian project in 2016. The objective of the Half-way house is to help the motivated persons with impeccable behavior and who are at the end of their sentence to successfully, more rapidly and qualitatively integrate into the society. The aim of the research is to evaluate the aspects of resocialization of the persons transferred to the Half-way house for the remainder of their sentence. The article focuses on the theoretical aspects of the resocialization of convicted persons and analyses the legislation and other documents of resocialization of convicts in a Half-way house paying attention to gaps and contradictions in them. The major contradiction is between the Criminal Executive Code of the Republic of Lithuania and the Labour Code of the Republic of Lithuania, as the Criminal Executive Code prohibits the convicted persons serving imprisonment from doing certain jobs and taking up duties. It can be the main reason limiting the opportunity for people to be transferred to the Half-way house. After interviewing 26 people transferred to the Half-way house, the empirical part states that the greatest challenges experienced by the respondents after having moved to the Half-way house were change of the environment (from prison to partial freedom) and the lack of money for food and basic necessities. The following major positive aspects of life in the Half-way house have been identified: possibility for free communication with relatives and possibility to work or study. More than a third of the respondents stated having experienced contradictions between the provisions of the LR Labour Code and the Criminal Executive Code (driving ban, prohibition from working as a manager, etc.). The residents of the half-way house are given the opportunities to participate in social programmes and events as well as activities outside the half-way house, i.e. to communicate with the public. The survey results show great importance and responsibility of the role of social workers in the process of reintegration. [From the publication]
