ENThe root is not only the most informative and stable, but also the most complex part of the word, therefore many researchers in different languages pay a lot of attention to it. The present article examines the phonotactics of more complex Lithuanian verb roots and discusses the frequency of their usage in Dabartinis lietuvių kalbos tekstynas (Text Corpus of the Modern Lithuanian Language) and in the speech of the younger generation of Lithuanians. The research material consists of 1085 Lithuanian verbs selected from Dabartinis lietuvių kalbos žodynas (Modern Lithuanian Dictionary), the materials of the Text Corpus of the Modern Lithuanian Language and details of the survey held among the younger generation of Lithuanians. A total of 20 verbs, 10 with three and four root terminal consonants were selected for the research. The research included 34 students of the 1st to the 3rd year of the Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy, and 46 students of senior grades of Mikalojus Daukša Secondary School. After analysing the research material, it was concluded that about half of the analysed verbs in the modern Lithuanian language are used rather rarely or not used at all. The most rare verbs with a ternary final are unzgia, klegžda, terškia, and džeržgia, and with a quaternary final - švargždžia, kverkščia, gvergždžia, and gurgžda. According to the information of the language users and the text corpus, the analysed verbs are ranked very similarly by frequency of usage, and the answers of the survey participants and the text corpus regarding the most rarely used verbs coincide completely.
