ENWhen going deeper into the nature of education of an individual and its specificity a question often arises why philosophy and education are so closely related. This problem is still relevant to the theory and practice of education. In their article the authors review attitudes of Bronislovas Bitinas and Leonas Jovaiša to the purpose of philosophy and its role in the present-day process of education, in the development and self-building of a personality. Bronislovas Bitinas distinguishes the role of pedagogical diagnostics in the reality of education as an instrument of knowing the reality of education; Leonas Jovaiša is more interested in philosophic guidelines, which reveal the structure of the reality of education itself and complexity of its cognition.
