LTŠis papildomas ketvirtasis Lietuvos piliakalnių atlaso tomas skirtas piliakalniams, surastiems po to, kai 2005 m. buvo išleistas Lietuvos piliakalnių atlasas (Lietuvos piliakalniai. Atlasas, sudarytojai Z. Baubonis ir G. Zabiela, Vilnius, 2005, t. I-III). Šiame tritomyje buvo pateikti duomenys apie 829 piliakalnius. Lietuvos piliakalnių atlaso IV tome piliakalniai aprašyti pagal 2005 m. naudotą sistemą, padarant tik kai kuriuos būtinus pakeitimus, nulemtus tiek pačių objektų, tiek ir atsiradusių naujovių juos fiksuojant. Piliakalniai šiame tome pateikiami abėcėlės tvarka pagal pavadinimus. Jų koordinatės, šlaitų aukštis ir lankymo kelių atstumai patikslinti pagal svetainės maps.lt teikiamą informaciją. Kadangi piliakalnių būklė ir išvaizda gali pasikeisti, stengtasi tiksliai dokumentuoti visą pateikiamą informaciją. Piliakalnių planai parengti 2007-2010 m. pagal Lietuvos teritorijos žemės paviršiaus lazerinio skenavimo duomenis (LIDAR) (1-2 taškai 1 m2). Piliakalniai iš oro fotografuoti dronais DJi Phantom. Pagrindžiant jau sunaikintų piliakalnių vertę, plačiau pasitelkta XIX-XX a. kartografinė medžiaga. Atlaso pabaigoje pateikiami piliakalnių sąrašai pagal rajonus ir savivaldybes, juose išskiriant šiame tome aprašomus piliakalnius ir prie tyrinėtų piliakalnių nurodant jų tyrimų metus. Papildomai pagal abėcėlę pateikiamas objektų, kurie nuo 1975 m. iki dabar įvairioje literatūroje buvo laikomi piliakalniais, tačiau nepateko į Lietuvos piliakalnių atlasą, sąrašas su trumpu jų apibūdinimu.Reikšminiai žodžiai: Piliakalniai; Piliakalnių raida; Žemėlapiai; Planai; Hillforts; Development of hillforts; Maps; Schemes.

ENThis is an updated volume of the atlas of Lithuanian hillforts containing information on hillforts discovered after 2005. Three volumes have already been published (Lietuvos piliakalniai. Atlasas. Edited by Z. Baubonis and G. Zabiela, Vilnius 2005, Volumes I-III), presenting data on 829 hillforts located in Lithuania. From 2005 the search for unknown hillforts was going slow, with only two or three hillforts being located each year. The layout of the fourth volume is organised in the same manner as in the earlier, 2005, publication: descriptions of hillforts include information such as the location of the hillfort, orientation of its levelled top interior, its form and size, measurements of fortification elements (ramparts, ditches and terraces), steepness and height of slopes, details on damage when present and its overall appearance. The information presented also lists most important elements within archaeological complexes, such as outworks, outer baileys, settlements at the foot of hills, burial grounds and so forth. Further details include results of previous investigations, historical accounts on castles if they were present on site, the dating of hillforts, travel and visiting instructions and main references describing the hillforts.So, the type of information presented differs from the 2005 format only in those cases where either the object itself determined the changes or there have innovations in recording methods, which allowed for additional data. The hillforts are listed in the atlas alphabetically by their names. The coordinates of locations, as well as height of slopes and travelling distances have been matched with information from an online maps website (maps.lt). Since the appearance and condition of hillforts are deteriorating, their present condition and all available information have been documented as thoroughly as possible. The plans of hillforts have been prepared by using 2007-2010 data from the LIDAR database, where the surface of Lithuanian territory has been been scanned in the range of 2 point per 1 square metre. Aerial photographs were taken by employing 'DJi Phantom'drones. And lastly, since a lot of hillforts have not survived to the present day, maps from the 19th and 20th centuries were employed as testimonies to their significance. The last section of the atlas lists all the hillforts according to districts and municipalities where they are located, with the year of investigations noted next to each one of them. Hillforts of the fourth volume have been highlighted. Furthermore, an additional list has been provided: it is a record of objects which are regarded as being hillforts in various references from 1975 and up to this day; they were not included in the atlas but are, nevertheless, briefly described in this section.
