ENThe decade beginning in 1950 and lasting until 1960 was a period of decline to both the life and professional activity of prof. Stanisław Kościałkowski. During this time, as an emigrant, he lived at the Convent of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth in Pitsford, where he taught history in the Convent’s junior high school for girls, and devoted himself to science, and activities in Polish scientific associations: Polish Society of Arts and Sciences Abroad, Polish Historical Society in the UK (from 1953, Polish Historical Society Abroad), Eastern Institute “Reduta”, and the Academic Community of the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius. The latter allowed him - as a senior - to return to his pre-war, Vilnius roots: those of a university professor and the last President of the Society of Friends of Science in Vilnius. In periodicals issued by these associations, he published numerous scientific works, delivered over ten speeches, not shying away from critical reviews of books published in the communist-run country. From the moment of his arrival to the UK from Beirut, he was also a professor at the Polish University Abroad in London, lending his authority to the Faculty of the Humanities. The decade beginning in 1950 and lasting until 1960 was a period of decline to both the life and professional activity of prof. From the moment of his arrival to the UK from Beirut, he was also a professor at the Polish University Abroad in London, lending his authority to the Faculty of the Humanities. In 1958, after the death of the first rector of said university, prof. Tadeusz Brzeski, Kościałkowski was unanimously elected to the post. Unfortunately his health did not allow him to assume this title. He died in 1960 at the age of 79. He was buried on the cemetery. [From the publication]
