ENStanisław Kościałkowski held a key position in the process of uncovering the political history of Lithuania during the reign of Stanisław August, thanks to his work Antoni Tyzenhauz. The political subject matter, though dispersed throughout his work, can be found mainly in the first and second chapter of vol. 1, and three chapters of vol. 2 (ch. eleven through thirteen). Kościałkowski’s top accomplishments include research into the history of royal court party in Lithuania. Knowledge about the mechanisms he describes is necessary to gain an understanding of the history of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the times of Stanisław August. Kościałkowski created from the ground up scientifically documented knowledge base on the political life of Lithuania between 1775 and 1780. The majority of his determinations have retained their relevance as a result of a very comprehensive enquiry into sources, utmost diligence and scholarly integrity. The longevity of his research is also determined by the ability to recognize and accurately analyze the mechanisms behind the struggle for power, thanks to which, from the multitude of detailed information, a clear image emerges of the political landscape of Lithuania in the times of Antoni Tyzenhauz.
