LT2015 m. rugsėjo 14–17 d. Kaliningrado gintaro muziejuje (rus. Калининградский музей янтаря) vyko tarptautinė mokslinė konferencija „Gintaras medicinos istorijoje“. Renginyje dalyvavo per 40 mokslininkų, gintaro ekspertų ir muziejininkų iš Rusijos, Latvijos, Lietuvos, Italijos, Portugalijos, Didžiosios Britanijos ir Jungtinių Amerikos Valstijų (JAV). Pranešėjai, pasitelkdami įvairius istorinius šaltinius, tarp jų ir dar nepublikuotus, nagrinėjo gintaro panaudojimo įvairiose istorinėse epochose temą. Daug dėmesio skirta gintaro pritaikymo liaudies medicinoje tematikos aktualizavimui šiuolaikinių muziejų parodose ir ekspozicijose. Apie muziejinius eksponatus šia tema bei eksponavimo problematiką diskutavo muziejininkai iš Rygos Paulo Stradinio medicinos istorijos muziejaus (lat. Paula Stradiņa Medicīnas vēstures muzejs), Londono gamtotyros muziejaus (angl. London natural history museum), Edinburgo gamtotyros muziejaus (angl. Edinburgh natural history museum), Kauno farmacijos muziejaus ir Maskvos mineralogijos muziejaus (rus. Минералогический музей). Konferencijoje pranešimą „Medicinos tema Palangos gintaro muziejaus ekspozicijose ir edukacinėje veikloje“ skaitė Lietuvos dailės muziejaus (LDM) Palangos gintaro muziejaus vyr. muziejininkė Regina Makauskienė. ENFrom 14 to 17 of September, 2015, in the Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum the international scientific conference “Amber in the History of Medicine” was held. Over 40 scientists, amber experts and museologists from Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Portugal, Great Britain, USA were the participants of the conference. The presenters examined the subject of uses of amber in different historical periods relying on multiple historical sources, including the unpublished ones. A lot of attention was paid to the aspect of use of amber in traditional medicine by organizing the exhibitions and expositions in contemporary museums. The museologists from P. Stradins Museum for History of Medicine in Riga, London’s Natural History Museum, Edinburgh’s Natural History Museum, Kaunas Pharmacy Museum, Moscow Mineralogical Museum, discussed the exhibits related with the subject as well as the problematics of the exhibiting. The chief museologist Regina Makauskiene representing the Palanga Amber Museum was the speaker as well. The Palanga Amber Museum was established in 1963. The Museum’s collection consists of 30 thousand exhibits. Approximately 9 million people have already visited the museum. In 2015 the project “The restauration of Amber museum mansion and its adaptation to the contemporary cultural tourism needs” was realized. The infrastructure of the building was renewed and the centre of cultural meetings and education was opened. In the exhibition, the theme about the use of amber and its healing properties is revealed together with other subjects. Amber accompanies Lithuanians from birth to death. Even the etymology of the Lithuanian word for amber is related to the verb “to defend”. In educational sessions these are the popular topics about the healing properties of amber: “Amber in traditional medicine”, “Amber properties”, “Interactive amulets”, “To know amber by senses”.
