ENThis article shows and organizes the main historiographic versions, analyzes current issues related to the calling and sequence of events at Novogrudok Council (1415). The author writes on the problem of recognition of Gregory Tsamblak, the Patriarch of Constantinople. The author concludes that within the Grand Duchy of Lithuania a separate self-governing Orthodox Church was formed. Gregory Tsamblak was recognized as an «official church hierarchy» based on the canonical precedent. The precedent arose during Metropolitan Alexius and Metropolitan Cyprian governing, when, in fact, the Kievan Metropolis was divided into two independent parts.
