ENThe article analyses a dialogue between a man and a woman, focusing on its semantic structure and functioning of the speech functions in the communication process. Dialogue is dominated by alternating referential, expressive, phatic and poetic functions The dialogue begins with a referential function which is usually responded by a phatic function. At the end of the dialogue the situation is resulted by a poetic function after which following replies are based on a referential function allowing to successfully complete the communication.
