LTXI a. pradžioje Kvedlinburgo analuose prie 1009 m. fiksuota šv. Brunono Bonifaco tragiškai pasibaigusi krikščioniškoji misija Rusijos ir Lietuvos pasienyje. Taip pirmą kartą paminėtas Lietuvos vardas. Tačiau per tūkstantį metų šis įvykis apaugo įvairiausiomis įvykio vietos, laiko, žmogžudystės įtariamųjų variantais ir interpretacijomis. Šie įvairūs brunonianos šaltiniai, pateikiantys žinias apie misionierių, jo gyvenimą bei kankinišką mirtį ir detaliai nagrinėjami šioje monografijoje, prasiskverbiant į pačias 1009-ųjų siužeto painiavos ištakas ir atvedant skaitytoją prie pirminių šaltinių.
ENIn one of the sources of Western Europe of the beginning of the 11th century - the Quedlinburg Annals - next to the year 1009 there is a statement about the Christian mission of Saint Bruno of Querfurt in confinio Rūsčia et Litiia that came to a tragic end. This event simultaneously represented in mentioned source, eventually gains a variety of versions in the other sources, concerning time and place of death. Even in the 11th century, the sources indicate at least five places of death, few martyrdom dates, and missionary himself is named differently. Precisely this various information prevailing in different in religious orders of Medieval European caused the different interpretations concerning the mission of St. Bruno Boniface, which highlighted three cognitive traditions: Camaldolese, (who indicated the Saint as Boniface), Benedictine and local (or Querfurt) traditions, who presented him as Bruno. The formation of different traditions with different names of the Saint led to the duality of the Saint in the 2nd half of the 16th century.Two holy martyrs and two missions appeared instead of one, and we arc searching for different culprits of this detective story. And while the latter accent of this case was quite soon identified, the scene of this event remains a key issue even after the start of the second millennium. Thus from the Millennium perspective we see different and sometimes contradictory statements, recorded in the writings by past witnesses, concerning life and death of St. Bruno Boniface. Therefore in this book we present to the reader a detailed analysis of corpus of historical sources concerning the missionary and the year 1009, by indicating their genetic inter-relationship and ways of reception, presenting their differences and similarities. By collecting and analyzing the testimony of direct and indirect witnesses, we tried to present the analysis of the evidence to the reader. Therefore this book is a study of sources and the research object is a variety of sources, which provide knowledge about Bruno of Querfurt, his life and martyrs death. Not the Saint of Querfurt, but sources of brunoniana are the main characters of this book. [From the publication]
