ENThe article presents the concept of a teaching method, describes methods of teaching language standards and their selection criteria. A study carried out by the Vilnius College of Technologies and Design aimed at finding out the attitude of students towards the methods of teaching language standards and their effectiveness is presented. The selection of the methods of teaching depends on both the established concept of education and the trends in this area. Among a variety of choices, the teachers have to select those serving the purpose of the discipline taught and compatible with the content of the subject, bearing in mind the level of experience of the students and the possibilities available. Appropriate teaching methods not only allow to educate students and to improve their skills, but also to ensure their becoming competitive specialists, capable of sustainable development their skills and being active citizens.
