ENLithuania is a post-communist state which has experienced numerous changes since independence in 1990. The period since independence has marked a transition from communism and its legal rules legacy to new Western democratic laws and practices. This chapter examines the changes in the area of party and campaign finance rules and practices and looks at the continual development of the Lithuanian campaign finance and party system by discussing the electoral system, the legislative framework in which finance occurs, practices in the area of campaign finance and the effect of the system on the development of individual parties and the party system as a whole. This analysis of the development of parties focuses on the number of parties gaining representation in the parliament and the consistency of voter partisanship. [Extract, p. 29]
