ENThe article considers the concept of sacredness in Lithuanian indigenous culture. Making use of phenomenological access, it is examines how sacredness unfolds through the Lithuanian language, traditional culture, literature, studies of the old world-view in the past decades. The naturalness of sacredness and its relationship with religions, manifestations of holiness and its direct experience are considered. The importance of sacred time and sacred places, the inherent sanctity of the land and the natural place are accented. Sacredness is a cultural universal and the highest condition experienced by humans; it can be reflected through word, writing, it provokes action – the establishment of a sacred place.
