ENEvery year, visitors of the Lithuanian Folk Museum are invited to celebrate together the main holidays of the agricultural calendar. Užgavėnės (Shrovetide) has been celebrated at the museum for already 35 years, Easter — for 26, the first Rugiapjūtė (Rye Harvest), was organised 41 years ago, while with Oninės (St Anne’s Day) it has actually been celebrated for 7 years, while Žolinės (Feast of the Assumption) celebrations have taken place for 14 years already. The Christmas, Joninės (Midsummer), Jurginės (St. George’s Day) and Sekminės (Pentecost) holidays, constantly being reborn, have their own unique history. Celebrations bring the museum back to life, but, on the other hand, it becomes the most appropriate place for a person to spend their free time, to get acquainted with their customs, to be in a natural rural area, watch how the tangible and intangible heritage complement each other. The goal of these holidays — to bring together a community that would gather here every year. [From the publication]
