ENThe author analyzes why the acceptance of postcolonial theory and criticism was so slow in Lithuania and what efforts had to be taken by a group of scholars who broke vicious circle after Baltic Postcolonialism was published. He discusses why so many academic critics remain suspicious while viewing the prospects of postcolonialism in Lithuania, even though Edward Said noted several decades ago about colonial character of Russian tzarist empire and Soviet regime. Yet, some writers like Ričardas Gavelis in the last century and Herkus Kunčius in this one produced important postcolonial novels.
