ENAim of the study. Using social survey methodology, based on representative sample of Vilnius city municipality population profoundly explore different aspects of physical activity. Material and methods. Social survey methodology was used in the study. From permanent population list 1065 randomly selected respondents from Vilnius municipality participated in the study. Sample size was calculated using 5 percent random error. Twelve specially prepared interviewers used direct interview method using face to face interview. Statistical analysis was applied using IBM SPSS Statistics, ver. 21. Chi square test was applied to find differences in answers in 2x2 and 2xk contingency tables. Differences assumed as statistically significant when p<0,05. Results. According to the survey, taking in-to account WHO physical activity recommendations for adults, physically active leisure was only 13.7 percent the representative capital‘s population, in which more men (16.6 percent.) than women (11.2 percent.). "Not exercise at all" responded more than one-quarter (28.8 percent.) of the respondents, most of them which do not exercise was 50-64 y. olds (41.7 percent.), one-third (33.7 percent.) – 35–49 y. olds and 16 percent – 20–34 y. old subjects. Most of the respondents worked in jobs which not requiring of many physical activities (71,5 percent.). In the jobs, which require strenuous physical work reported one-third (28.6 percent.) of the respondents.Mainly sedentary and little physical activity demanding work is more common in women (79.2 percent.) than men (62.3 percent.) and in younger (20–34 years) people (76.8 percent.) than older (35 to 49 y. – 69.1 percent, and 50–64 y. – 66.9 percent.) respondents and vice versa, in the work, which requires a lot of physical activity more engaged men (37.7 percent.) than women (20.8 percent.) and more older survey participants (35–49 y. – 30.9 percent. and 50–64 y. – 33.1 percent.) than younger (20–34 y. – 23.2 percent.). More younger (20-34 y.) respondents (9.1 percent.), than the senior (35-49 y. - 4.1 percent. 50-64 y. - 4.2 percent.) for the travel to the workplace (or another activities) took the bike. Among all survey participants to the work, studies or other activities on foot or by bike during the warm season of the year, goes by 33.1 percent., while during the cold season of the year – by 27.8 percent of respondents. Among such a way traveling to work, study or other activities of respondents who chose, almost half of them will go on a daily basis, both warm and cold season. Conclusion. Vilnius city municipality able-bodied population has insufficient physical activity and extremely limited physical activity in leisure time, especially among older adults (35–49 y. and 50–64 y. age group ) and women. Such physical activity in the form of walking or going by bike with the aim of driving somewhere are more common in women than in men and 20–34 y. age (cycling). The age and jobs type has an impact on physical activity. There is a tendency that at leisure times, less physically active are the groups of respondents, whose activity is associated with moderate to intense physical activity at work. [From the publication]
