ENFollowing the restoration of independence in Lithuania, in Šiauliai flourished personal libraries, which were valuable in a variety of authors and book content. There also became available the personal libraries, in which most of the books were published during the interwar period and earlier, prohibited publications during the Soviet era or published abroad emigrants’ from Lithuania books. There were popularized inter-war books and their authors, whose books in the Soviet times were forbidden, and card index of publications of personal libraries (in Šiauliai Municipality, Julius Janonis Gymnasium and other libraries). The personal library reveals a man himself, his hobbies and goals. At the beginning of the 21st century content and nature of personal libraries change, there appear more e-books and albums, CDs, however, remains a traditional book, which reflects its owner’s interests and needs.
