ENInstitute of the Lithuanian Language published Kazimieras Garšva’s book Lithuanian subdialects in Latvia, a unique encyclopedia of Lithuanian culture and history in Latvia. There are described places of residence of Lithuanians, their history, the use of the Lithuanian and other languages, the number of the Lithuanians in regions and districts, unity of the Balts, phonetics, grammar, vocabulary, place names and surnames of old Lithuanian residents’ subdialects. In addition you will find texts of dialects and their recordings on CD. The first such publication is very necessary for libraries, schools and other cultural institutions, local governments, particularly at the Lithuanian-Latvian border.
