The Promise of certainty, safety and security in an uncertain, unsafe and insecure world : the emergence of Lithuanian populism
LTŠiame straipsnyje analizuojamas fenomenas, JAV antropologo Oscaro Lewiso pavadintas skurdo kultūra – ne tikrasis skurdas ir socialinio bei politinio susvetimėjimo sąlygota socialinė atskirtis, o politinė kultūra, skatinanti žmones išsižadėti ne tik aktyvios politinės ir moralinės laikysenos, bet ir domėjimosi savo socialine aplinka. Tokia sau primesta atskirtis siejama su moralinio determinizmo kultūra, kurią Vytautas Kavolis savo studijose aprašė kaip modernią amoralią kultūrą, arba determinizmo kultūrą. Straipsnyje teigiama, kad šis socialinės elgsenos bruožas ar veikiau jų kompleksas darosi vis labiau būdingas Lietuvai ir kitoms postkomunistinėms šalims. Būtent šiuo sociopsichologiniu kompleksu ir aiškinama populizmo sėkmė bei politinės sistemos krizė Lietuvoje. Sykiu siekiama aiškintis, kiek populizmo sklaida nulemta lokalinės ir tarptautinės politikos būklės bei pokyčių, vykstančių Europoje. Lyginamoji perspektyva leidžia populizmą sieti su naująją neaiškumo, netikrumo ir neužtikrintumo būsena, kurią mes atsekame naujų politinės egzistencijos formų siekiančioje Europos Sąjungoje. Ši būsena būdinga tarptautinių santykių sistemų pokyčių ar net civilizacinių lūžių epochoms. Ji pavojinga antimodernizmo bei neapykantos protrūkiais, sykiu ir politine apatija bei gilaus socialinio bei politinio susvetimėjimo formomis. Straipsnyje remiamasi sociologiniais duomenimis ir politinių įvykių analize, kurie įkomponuojami į platų socialinės teorijos bei kritikos kontekstą. ENThe article analyses a phenomenon entitled by the US anthropologist Oscar Lewis as poverty culture – not real poverty and social exclusion due to social and political alienation but political culture urging people to betray not only active political and moral attitudes but also interest in their social environment. This self-imposed exclusion is linked with the culture of moral determinism which Vytautas Kavolis describes in his studies as a modern amoral culture, or the culture of determinism. The article says that this feature of social behaviour or rather a complex is becoming more typical of Lithuania and other post-Communist countries. This sociopsychological complex is used to explain success of populism and crisis of the political system in Lithuania. It also states how much dissemination of populism is defined by the condition of local and international politics and changes in Europe. The comparative view allows linking populism with a new condition of non-clarity, non-reality and insecurity which we see in the European Union seeking new forms of political existence. This condition is typical for changes in international relations systems or even epochs of civilisation breakdowns. It is dangerous with its outbreaks of anti-modernism and hatred and political apathy and deep social and political alienation. The article is based on sociological data and analysis of political events incorporated in the broad context of social theory and criticism. Apart from Lewis and Kavolis, the article also relies on concepts and theories of Michel Wieviorka and Zygmunt Bauman.
