ENThe paper, applying the approach of communicative studies, deals with the role of “Metskaitliai” (22 issues) published by Laurynas Ivinskis (1810-1881) in the context of Lithuanian literature. Two aspects are discussed: 1) the calendars in Ivinskis’s publication as the means propagating fiction literature (the role of a literary almanac, creating and developing the literary context, consolidating the readers’ community, and 2) extra-literary dominants of the calendar (propagating the process of literacy acquisition in a rural community, enhancing the process of reading, changing rural population’s mentality). The strategic nature of the address “To the Clerks of the Lowlands of Lithuania (Žemaitija)” by L. Ivinskis is emphasised in the work. [From the publication]
