ENStatesman and composer Michał Kleofas Ogiński (1765-1833) left ample written legacy, preserved today in the state archives of several countries, museums and library foundations: political speeches delivered in the sejmiks and Sejms of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, notes on improvement of nation's economy, diplomatic correspondence from The Hague and London, projects of restoration of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, sizeable business and private correspondence, manuscripts of musical writings, memoirs and essays. All this legacy reflects public work of M. K. Ogiński, that of the statesman and public figure, also allowing to know him both as musician and writer. Yet his ample epistolary legacy surrounding personal life of Michał Kleofas Ogiński, his morals and ethics, family links and relationships is still concealed in archival foundations and is little explored. This publication includes the entire text of 'Letter to my daughter Amelia on the education of children', written in Rietavas in November of 1822 and translated from French to Lithuanian by Jūratė Karazijaitė, revealing pedagogical views of M. K. Ogiński and being a valuable source in understanding pedagogical ideas and history of education in Lithuanian manors. In the introductory article to the publication of the source, the remaining copies of the 'Letter to my daughter Amelia on the education of children' are presented in the wide context of epistolary legacy of M. K. Ogiński and archeographical analysis of the sources is offered. In the second part of the introductory article, on the basis of letters byM. K. Oginski's daughter Amelia and historiography of the topic, biography of Amelia Ogińska Załuska is discussed. The author of the article comes to conclusion that Amelia's dedication to the family, her care for children and their all-round education, pedagogical talent and wisdom, ability to listen and offer advice became an example to be followed by the entire Załuski family. It is unquestionable that this was influenced by the example Amelia saw in her family home, close spiritual link to her father and his principles of child education passed unto her.
