ENA gratulation is one of the forms of occasional literature, common in the culture of Modern era Europe. They became popular in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania during Baroque period. As all occasional literature, gratulations, which developed out of the studies in humanities, was a great opportunity to use education and literary know-how to note consecrations and ingresses of bishops, to thank patrons for their support, to greet voivodes upon entering their voivodeships and to honour high guests. These writings reflected mentality of the time and were inseparable part of public life. In their content and form of expression gratulations are closest to panegyrics, and their aggregation into separate grouping is permitted only by the absence of a heading with concrete designation of genre. Family history of the Oginskis, magnates of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, is visually expressed in the occasional writings of various genre. In the 17th century, printing house of Vilnius Academy had published thirteen publications dedicated to the Oginskis or in relation to some of their activities, and in the 18th century - almost a hundred. Tadeusz Franciszek Ogiński (1712-1783) or his family members received 21 of these publications. Four of them were written in Latin, one in Latin and Polish, and the rest was in Polish."Arcus triumphalis" is the earliest writing, documenting through literature first career steps of Oginski. It was written on occasion of his celebratory ingress to Eldership of Ashmyany in 1740. The author of this piece is considered to be Piarist Maciej Dominik Dogiel (1715-1760). This compliment is an example of the bright style of Baroque, notable for ornamentation common to the era. It is interesting to note that plentiful mythological allusions (perhaps in the same number as historical details) do not burden the text or inhibit its integrity. On the opposite, smartly used they deepen the level of meaning, revealing additional contexts. Poetics and style of the writing, the way of shaping the narrative, metrics (hexameter) and scope of the work point to the shift of the genre towards epic poem. [From the publication]
