ENInterpretation of two minimalistic caricatures, published in the 1910s in Kaunas and Vilnius satirical journals, namely the "Kaunas Mirror" and the "Vilnius Mirror" has revealed quite a few associations with the colour black. Firstly, this is an archetypical colour of darkness, sin, rebellion, consequently it is possible to couple it with the crime which was new to modern urbanites, i.e. hooliganism. Although the dark side of the urban nigh is not always dangerous, it can refer to the end of a workday and start of leisure time and entertainment. This text is aimed at indicating the social aspects of the colour black - black as dangerous and black as pleasurable colour as perceived by late 19th and early 20th century Vilnius and Kaunas.
