ENThe issue of teacher training was raised during the last decades of the 18th century with the demand that women become the guardians of national traditions within the private environment. The first teacher training projects were drawn up in the first quarter of the 19th century. However, national and education policy pursued by the Russian Empire brought the implementation of the said projects to a stand. After the January Uprising (1863-1864), women of the Catholic faith were banned from education related activities. The issue of teacher training regained relevance after 1905, as Lithuanian and Polish education societies established first teacher seminaries offering education to both men and women.
