ENThis article offers data on the inventories of private and state estates of 1847 which are for the first time available in historiography. The data encompass 3,000 peasant households across 483 villages in Kaunas and Vilnius govemorates, with the total of 19,917 individuals. The research reconstructs the Lithuanian peasant household, its size, and composition prior to the abolition of serfdom in 1861. The analysis revealed that in pre-reform Lithuania ordinary families of 7-8 individuals were most common. In the first half of the 19th century, extended families made up from 10 to 90 percent of all households in the central govemorates of Russia. Meanwhile households which included several married siblings with families made up only from 0,1 to 0,6 percent of all households in Lithuania. [From the publication]
