ENUsually children start being interested in sports at the early childhood and even then requirements to their sport achievements are very high. Athletes who have high motivation consider the challenge as the task they are about to overcome, they are more interested in the activity they take part in, and have a stronger feeling of responsibility and duty. This leads to success in sports. Motivation often determines how much an athlete wants to achieve in sports, how persistently he trains, in what activity he will be engaged, for how long he will be active in sports. The scientific problem is in the question of sport motivation difference in school students of age 13–15, who do sports dance and live in urban and rural areas. Hypothesis is confirmed if extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, motivation to achieve success and avoid failure is higher in school students of age 13–15, who do sports dance and live in urban areas, than in those, who live in rural regions. The aim of investigation is to estimate sport motivation of school students of age 13–15, who do sports dance. K. Zamfir method was used in order to estimate extrinsic and intrinsic motivation and T. Elers questionnaire was used to estimate motivation to achieve success and avoid failure. Student’s t-test and χ² helped to check the scientific hypothesis and to estimate the reliability of difference among school students, who were questioned. 117 school students (boys and girls of age 13–15): 61 from urban areas and 56 from remote regions took part in the study. They were from Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Plungė, and Gargždai regions. It was established that indications of sports motivation in school students doing sports dance in big towns and in remote regions differed statistically reliably. School students in urban areas doing sports dance have statistically reliably stronger intrinsic motivation (p<0,05) and extrinsic positive motivation (p<0,05) than students in rural areas.Extrinsic negative motivation (p>0,05) of school students in urban and rural areas was not statistically different. It was revealed that school students in rural areas have higher motivation to achieve success (p<0,05) than school students from urban areas. School students in urban areas doing sports dance have higher motivation (p<0,05) to avoid failure than school students in rural areas. [From the publication]
