ENThe aim of this article is to characterize the nine letters of Władysław Syrokomla (Ludwik Kondratowicz, 1823–1862) from the collections of Lituanian State Historical Archive that have never been published before. Not all letters are dated but probably they were written between 1850 and 1860, in the poet’s most creative years. At that time Syrokomla lived first in Borejkowszczyzna (16 km from Vilnius) and later in Vilnius. During this period poet was very popular though this did not guaranteed nor peace for poet, neither welfare of his family. It comes clear from the analyzed letters - Syrokomla experienced serious financial problems and at the same time made an efforts in finding a job for other people – his relatives and friends. There were four recipients of those letters: Władysław Fiorentini (4 letters), Ludwik Wróblewski (1 letter), Rudolf Pisanka (3 letters) and Paweł (Kukolnik?) whose surname remains unknown (1 letter). Letters addressed to Wróblewski and Pisanka are official, other are private. [From the publication]
