ENThe paper analyzes the letters and autobiographies of three prominent Lithuanian women writers who wrote under pseudonyms: Lazdynų Pelėda, Žemaitė and Šatrijos Ragana. Letters, autobiographies and memoirs can be referred to as egodocuments. The term was used in Lithuania about twenty years ago, but it was superseded by synonyms such as autobiographical texts, autobiographical writings, intimate writings. The autobiography of Lazdynu Pelėda meets all the four characteristics distinguished by Phillipe Lejeune, a scientist who defined autobiography. In the autobiography of Žemaite the author is not synonymous with the teller, hence it should be considered as an autobiographical story. The letter written by Šatrijos Ragana to Vaižgantas appears to be closer to autobiography and, for this reason, the term letter-autobiography has been introduced in this work. Egodocuments by Lazdynu Pelėda, Šatrijos Ragana and Žemaite are a phenomenon in Lithuanian culture. Their epistolary texts are not only documents of the difficult era, but they also witness the development of the authors' personalities. The letters reveal how an individual thinks and behaves while struggling at the crossroads of history and politics. The analysis of sources revealed that the letter is an exceptional text. It both reveals moods of the period and tells the story of an individual. Epistolary texts are intimate, sincere and offer an opportunity for a comprehensive analysis. [From the publication]
