ENThe article presents the biography of a prominent priest, social activist, educator and a suffragan of Seinai Diocese. Augustinas Polikarpas Marciejevskis (1761-1827) never became the bishop of Seinai Diocese; therefore he stayed in the shadow of those who worked in Seinai, such as Baranauskas, Karosas, Strašinskis. However, Marciejevskis' deeds deserve greater attention and gratitude. The author of the article analyses literature and other sources, selects some historical and biographical facts in order to present the activities of Augustinas Polikarpas Marciejevskis and their importance for Seinai Diocese. Augustinas Polikarpas Marciejevskis was of the Jewish origin. He worked as a secretary for Karpavičius, the first bishop of Wigry. Later, he worked as a parish priest in Prienai, Rudamina, Liškiava and Seinai. He led the Deanery in Simnas. For a period of about 15 years, serving as an official, administrator, and suffragan, he lived in Rudamina and managed the diocese in the early years of its existence. He diligently cared about the order in church, education, social life and moral values. He particularly emphasized the education of the clergy, management of deaneries, preparation and ongoing education of priests. He knew the Lithuanian language and delivered the sermon in Lithuanian. He was the first to mention the Lithuanian speaking believers of the diocese in the official church documents. In Rudamina he founded a "little seminary" for peasant children who were later educated in Tykocin. His wide-ranging and rich activities contributed to the flowering of Seinai Diocese, which became home for a number of outstanding personalities. A. P. Marciejevskis died in Rudamina. He was buried near the church, close to the well-known settlement of Rudamina. [From the publication]
