ENThe political, economic and social conditions of different historical periods had formed many areas of social life, in particular marital trends. The influence extended to the age of newlyweds, the most popular day of the week and season for the wedding, and the specifics of premarital agreements. In the field of family law, the prevailing territory of Lithuania during the interwar period used the Russian civilian legislation from 1832. However, Užnemunė used the Polish "Law on Marriage" from 1836. Therefore, for the research on the customs of newlyweds, the church metrics became one of the most valuable sources. The Church wedding registry books contain data which provides answers to many questions regarding the history of Lithuanian families. The main object of study in this article is the wedding registry books from the Roman Catholic parishes in the former Seinai county Būdvietis, Kapčiamiestis, Kučiūnai, Leipalingis, Punskas, Rudamina, Šventežeris and Veisiejai). The aim of the research is to analyse and present the specifics of the matrimonial customs from 1922 to 1938. [From the publication]
