ENRecently it has been claimed that the Lithuanian dialect of Punskas region is vanishing and losing its main features, such as: assibilation, the final pronunciation of vowels in accusative case -ų and -/, in instrumental case -u and -/, as well as the pronunciation of frontal / before front vowels. The article tries to verify the claims and analyse the texts as well as the results of research obtained and collected in different periods by the following authors: Algis Uzdila (1963), Wojciech Smoczyński (1977), Irena Aleksaitė (1985), Birutė Burdinaitė (1994), Jovita Nevulytė-Grėbliūnienė (2005 and 2015) and Dalia Sendaitė (2009). The authors of the article provide three recorded and transcribed texts to prove that the main features of the Lithuanian dialect are still present to a greater or lesser extent.
