ENThe Alexander’s succession to the throne of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1492 restored social and political order, that is the custom of a permanent stay of the monarch in the state, which Lithuania did not have for over half a century. The reign of Alexander explicitly shows what kind of benefits could be enjoyed by the permanent stay of the monarch’s court in the state and what kind of long-term effects it could exert. The grand-ducal chancellery was the centre of the political reforms. It underwent fundamental change not observed since the reign of Vytautas. The above-mentioned team initiated a wide-ranging undertaking of “registering power”, whose effect was the introduction of the account books for the court of Grand Duke, with the aim to settle treasury and financial matters. This and other reforms (monetary, military, envoys’, etc.) show the importance of permanent residence of the monarch in the state and institutional restoration, and with reference to its composition-the importance of the international grand-ducal court, who was the place of conceptualization and realization of new political and economic projects. From the very beginning of his reign Alexander was looking for means of expression suitable for the propaganda of the monarchical system.Such message can be found in his documents, in which his attitude to the Council of Lords was consistently referred to as consilium nostrum. Alexander exercised his power in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania independently - the example of which can be the fact of withholding resolutions of the Union of Mielnik and ignoring claims of other members of the dynasty to allocate a part for younger brother Sigismund from the territory of Grand Duchy.
