ENThe Manuscript Department of the Jagiellonian Library in Cracow holds a collection of manuscripts and documents accumulated by the scientific secretary of the Vilnius Temporary Archaeological Commission, Maurycy Krupowicz (1823-1890), whose significant part consists of materials from the archive of the Vilnius Temporary Archaeological Commission and the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities. The collection is comprised of two files. The first file titled Akta i protokoły b. Muzeum Starożytności i Komisji Archeologicznej Wileńskiej z lat 1855-1864 (“Documents and Records of the F [ormer] Museum of Antiquities and the Vilnius Archaeological Commission from 1855 to 1864”) contains documents of various nature (in total, 401 archival pages) on the activity of the Vilnius Temporary Archaeological Commission and the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities. This diverse material is related with the founding, opening and furnishing of the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities and the accumulation of exhibits. Quite a large part of the collection consists of documents of the Vilnius Temporary Archaeological Commission: a list of the members of 1859 including 186 persons and the minutes of the sessions, in which the discussed topics and delivered reports are briefly summarised. The second file titled Korespondencja b. Muzeum Starożytności i Komisji Archeologicznej Wileńskiej z lat 1860-1864 (“Correspondence of the F[ormer] Museum of Antiquities and the Vilnius Archaeological Commission from i860 to 1864”) is comprised of two volumes, each consisting of circa 400 archival pages. It is a rich and interesting epistolary material including the correspondence of various persons with the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities and the Vilnius Temporary Archaeological Commission on various scientific topics and issues concerning the donation of exhibits to the museum. The analysis of the archive of the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities and the Vilnius Temporary Archaeological Commission in Krupowiczs collection reveals so far unknown or less explored aspects of the activity of these institutions. The part of the archive of the Vilnius Museum of Antiquities and the Vilnius Temporary Archaeological Commission preserved by Krupowicz was given over to the Jagiellonian Library in 1892 by his wife, Benedykta z Bouffałów Krupowiczowa (?-1907). The personality of Krupowicz, a graduate of the Dor- pat Imperial University, an archivist and historian, an active contributor to the newspaper Виленский вестник (The Vilnius Courier), a member of the Vilnius Statistics Committee, a scientific secretary of the Vilnius Temporary Archaeological Commission and the editor of the published historical sources, is no less interesting.
