LTStraipsnyje siekiama atskleisti priežastis, lėmusias A.Giddens knygos Sociologija populiarumą ir šio vadovėlio perspektyvas prigyti Lietuvoje. Reikšminiai žodžiai: Giddenso sociologija; Sociologijos vadovėlis; Giddens sociology; Handbook of sociology.
ENThe article attempts to reveal the reasons of popularity of the book by A.Giddens Sociology as well as the perspectives of the textbook in Lithuania. The parallel is drawn with three elements of the success formula that determine marketability and popularity of any article: logo, novelty and safety manual. The article maintains that popularity of the book is owing to the name of the author and other marketing reasons rather than its content. It refers to the statements of Clegg who claims that the secret of popularity of the book is global marketing rather than the novelty of the theoretical idea. The article gives a many-sided evaluation of the textbook drawing parallels with the aspects of the world experiencing globalisation. Finally, the article poses the questions whether application of such case of global commodification is possible for cognition of the Lithuanian reality, or whether it is possible to speak of correlation of Giddens’ text with the social life of Lithuania.
