ENThis educational book provides information about the important communication and collaboration concepts of doctor-patient relationships, their origins, challenges, and granted opportunities. The author qualitatively analyses a new model of the doctor-patient interrelationship and collaborative decision-making, and refers to ways and reasons why this model should be developed and consolidated. The author reviews threats and disturbances that can occur during the process of collaborative decision-making, for both doctor and patient, and what the doctor should take into account when evaluating and developing them. The textbook, "A doctor and a patient: communication, defence mechanisms, personalities", is the first scientific textbook of its kind in Lithuanian literature. It is not only intended for psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, or those with an interest in psychiatry. It is dedicated to all medical professionals and medical students interested in the mental phenomena, and is a coherent sequel to the monograph "The Social Face of Psychopathology: Hypotheses and paradoxes". We hope that the information in this book will be a new and useful step in helping to improve the doctor-patient relationship and in promoting qualitatively new opportunities in the fight against health problems.
